Wow thanks for the heads-up. Had no idea Remington had gotten into the game, and that thing sure looks pretty...

Not a bad price, but I'd want it on the market for a year or so before I'd buy one. Let them get the bugs worked out first.

I've shot thousands of rounds through the old military issue 1911A1's......Remington was one of the contracted suppliers back then. Glad to see thier getting back into it.

That's a purty gun and one just begging to be adopted and 'modified/adjusted' by moi'!

Some on-line dealer was taking per-orders a week or so ago; IIRC, the price was $619 (note the MSRP in the Remington ad is $699....)...

My dad carried a Rem. 1911 as a seabee in WWII. He always said it was better than the Colt version and wished he'd never turned it in after coming home. I'll have to check out the new version.

The June issue of Shooting Times had an article on it. They said they liked the gun but it had a few bugs to be worked out, I no longer have the magazine so I can't be specific. It was the usual gun mag article...nothing too bad to report. I'd wait a bit to see more reviews, both shooter and published.

Has the checkered slide stop/release and the old style thumb safety<~~~(which is great in my opinion) & better than any modern extended thumb safety.

Another thought, I'm sure they're thinking of the upcoming centennial of the 1911 and wanted to get on the bandwagon. I think that we are going to see a bunch of "new" and special offerings from the many 1911 manufacturers out there.

Heard through the grapevine they were getting in to the 1911 game. Nice

I'll bet Remi has a few "smaller models" in the back burner.

Either way, The Gov model looks just as good as their original Piece, made many decades ago.

Shooting Times did point out that they were shooting a prototype, not a production model. Naturally, Remington assured them that the bugs would be worked out prior to the production run.

    Time will tell...
