S&W Model 315 or 386 NG Series for CCW?

    Hi,

I originally decided on the 386 as a CCW for the extra round and .357 capability; however; after more research it seems very few owners recommend shooting the .357 out of theses scandium frames. I figure if I'm not going to shoot or carry .357, the K frame 6 shoot 315NG may be the better choice. Its also slightly smaller for CC. Both guns seems to have similar balance and feel in my hand...GREAT! The K 315 seemed to have a slightly smoother DA in dry fire. Hands-on review only . Oh yeah, the 315 is also about $100 less.
    What are your opinions? Thanks

I've got a 315, nice gun, very well balanced, comfortable to carry and shoot, light enough for all day carry, heavy enough that recoil isn't a problem.

The 386 is a bit larger overall being an L-frame (the 315 is a K), but the grip frames are the same size. It's an ounce or two heavier, around 24oz, I think, recoil shouldn't be too bad with .357mags, certainly the gun is strong enough to handle as many as you're willing to put through it.

IMO, if you're not interested in shooting .357's buy the 315. It'll handle the hottest .38spls (I load mine with Buffalo Bore) is a little easier to conceal and a bit more comfortable to carry than an L-frame, even one of the same weight.
“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
