Buy the Hornady Critical Defense Ammo. I have Rugers that just love this ammo. Even my P95 and My Glock 9mms in 17,19,and 26. I plan on going sometime to the Hornady Factory to talk to them about making the 9mm,.38,.357 in different loadings. They might be doing that now,but I am not for sure. I did talk to them on the phone and the were listening. richgp100z

I don't own a .357 however when .357 ammo is being talked about multiple people always recommend that stuff.

Speer Gold Dot short barrel. I like it. Personally I don't worry about loosing velocity and focus more on recoil management. I don't want my eyes to water when I shoot so I try to find something I'm comfortable shooting.

I'm even a fan of Winchester White Box .357 in their semi jacketed soft points.

I don't enjoy shooting full powered .357 out of a short gun, even one as heavy and sturdy as an SP101. I'd go with medium power or low recoil loads if I was using .357. The Remington Gold Saber is a nice load that's not full powered and I use that a lot. If the CD is full power 125gr I'll pass. If it's medium I'd give it a try. And as for any JSP, I've never got a round of 158gr JSP or SJHP to expand from a handgun. Not one round, even in bare gel or wet newspaper at close range from a 6" barrel. Training ammo yes, hunting maybe, SD no.

And don't forget that the Buffalo ammo says "tactical". + 100 CDI points for that.

+1 on Gold Dots. I use them for my M&P 340.

I carry .357's in my S&W 640 (about the same weight).

I like a mid power load.

    Can Less be More

I carry the DPX. But there are others like the Speer and the Remington Golden Sabres that are good also.

    A Look at Corbon

I practice with 125 grain .357 reloads from Mastercast that mimic the DPX's pretty well and are cheap. Once you are sighted in with the DPX, expense isn't an issue that way.

I also use the Speer 135gr short barrel .357 loads as well as the 125gr Remington golden sabers which are also a great round. Both rounds are a very good design with proven track records in their performance.

I carry both the above mentioned loads in my S&W 340PD,my gun is also fitted with the CT-405 laser grips with the air pocket over the backstrap. I find both of these rounds controllable if a bit unpleasant to shoot for extended sessions.

I think these are both equally good SD rounds pick the ones you shoot best and the ones that shoot best in your gun. In my opinion you can't go wrong with either of these rounds.
