Unhappy Taurus 709 broken ejector, time to send it in...

Bought a Taurus PT709 a few weeks ago:
    - 1st session: 100 rounds with one FTF towards end. No FTEs
    - 2nd session: 200 rounds. No FTFs, started getting some FTEs towards end of session (dirty gun?)
    - 3rd session: 20 Gold Dots, 50 RWS. Gold Dots cycled flawlessly and a few FTEs with the RWS.

Came home to clean and discovered that the ejector is broken (probably happened during my second shooting session)?

I guess it's time to send it in to Taurus. Just curious, anyone else have this problem?

The first batch of 709s came with an inferior extractor. Taurus has recently re-designed the extractor angle and made it a little beefier. Extraction [rejection] reports are very favorable after the install. Any FTE issues associated directly to the original extractor have apparently been eliminated by the new design.

If you contact Taurus they might ship you a new extractor. The installation is not too complicated, from what I hear.

You need an extractor, not an ejector.

You need to get with Rollo. He had the same issue with his and apparently a new extractor took care of it. See his post "Falling in Love Again" I think it's titled.

yup, what ya have there is a broken extractor. Now, what I would do, ya see, is replace the broken extractor with a new one. That should git ya shootin in no time.

I looks like a piece of the slide is cracked off on the right side of the photo at the top. Is that the broken extractor pin that is standing upright? The diameter is 3 times greater than what I would have expected.

Sadly that is what sometimes happens when manufacturers move away from the more expensive to produce "forged & machined" parts to investment castings & MIM (Metal Injection Molded) in order to shave manufacturing costs off the bottom line.
Especially with regard to high stress critical parts.

It's a sign of the times though I guess.

Don't know why I typed ejector. It is of course an extractor...

    Thanks for correcting me.

I did have the same issue with mine. Call Taurus and ask them to send the the extractor like was suggested. It's pretty easy to replace and will save you about 5 weeks on turn around time. Mine has run well since It was replaced.

Taurus will send you one, it's an easy fix. I haven't had any issues with mine through 1,000 rounds but the early ones there seemed to be some issues with extractors. I hope you get it going again soon.
