Even though I'm a big fan of the .40 Cal I was considering the m&p 9c for carry dose any one have any experience with this gun and are there any suggestions on a good defensive ammo that's controllable out of this short barrel?
I bought one for my wife, and I have carried it a couple of times. We both love it, very easy to conceal and she shoots it great. She carries Federal 147gr. HST'S in it and they shoot great, but we have not had any issues with anything we have shot out of it. Overall it is a great CCW choice. IMHO
tip top cc!

If you like 40, then carry a M&P40c like I do.
You will be surprised with the lack of recoil with the 40 and there by how controllable it is. One less ammo to stock.

I own one of these guns. It carries like a dream, and is plenty of punch. Recoil is nill, and follow-up shots are spot on. 12 round mags.
The gun came with two supplied mags;
one that sits flush, and another with a finger grip 2 the end of the mag. Honestly, niether 'print' when U carry. I have mine in a Don Hume JIT, OWB, and it's barely noticable, even with a t-shirt. If you choose IWB, it disappears completely.
Carry ammo is either Federal EFMJ, or Gold dot 124.
Whoops forgot... Use gold dots, or rangers. Any of the big names that make high quality SD ammo are pretty good.

yup, great gun and there are tons of good SD ammo out there now days Golden Sabres, Gold Dots, the new Ranger stuff...just tons.
Carry the 9c on and off. Usually with Speed Gold Dot Short Barrel.

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.
Just bought the M&P 40 compact last week. Went to the range today, and went thru 100 rounds. Out of the box, 0 hiccups. Was very smooth and pretty accurate. Less recoil than I expected. I was shooting at 20 yards and was very pleased.
I always go for the Federal HST. If the barrel's less than 3", I'll use +P 147 grain. If it's over 3", I'll use standard pressure 147 grain.
Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~Paul Howe
I have a full size 40S&W and my dad and uncle have the 9mm compact they love this gun and it hides very well. heck even the full size hides well. I think Smith and Wesson have a deal going on right now. Buy a new M&P get TWO free extra magazines with it! I did this deal when it first came out. It is awesome.

Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.
If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics stink.
I carry one with 124-gr. +P Gold Dot Short Barrel.
There's no real question about 'controllable' ammo in this gun. It has pretty much no recoil.
Note to self: The only way to win is not to play.
The M&P9c would be a great choice. It is one of the five M&P's that I own and love.
I would choose Federal HST 124gr ammunition for self defense.
