Question The only bad thing about Glocks

    First off:

    I LOVE GLOCK!

There, now hopefully folks will read the rest before flaming me...

I am quite sure that Howard Roark (look him up) would have loved Gaston Glock. His design style that emphasizes efficiency, and his seemingly indestructible nature (survived an assassination attempt in his seventies!) would have endeared him to Roark as surely as any well designed building.

My only quibble with Glocks is the fact that they all look the same.

I know, I know. You don't fix what ain't broken, but I would love to see him put his mind to coming up with another style, or a different look. It won't happen, because he got it right the first time (well, the 17th time...). What can I say? I like variety. It's the spice of life.

Oh, and while I'm at it:

In your very bestest whiny voice, repeat after me:

"Why doesn't he make a rifle?!"

That which does not kill us leaves us broken and bleeding...

Donít mess with the guy who can barely stand up. His remaining options for self-defense don't include your survival.

Most of Gaston's other 16 previous patents are not firearms.

Because that is not Glock's market. Why doesn't Ferrari make a pick-up truck?

    GLOCKREAPER,

    Good point.

I was referring to the 16 models of Glock pistol that he made before he reached "Perfection". He even shot them with his left hand to allow himself the ability to continue designing with his right if the prototypes ever blew up!

I get it. You can't improve on perfection, but I still (whiny, yeah, I know...) would like to see a different design. I guess that's why I was excited about the Gen4 Glocks and all the buzz they generated.

I would point out that while Ferrari does not make pick-up trucks, their cars do display differences in design and appearance...

Don't worry. Once I'm rich and famous, I'll get more Glocks.

    I'm just biding my time...

Here are a couple of thoughts on the subject.

    1. Remember, no matter how many Glocks civilians buy, the primary market for Glock is military/LE worldwide. Think uniformity. I haven't seen very many uniformed military/police that are allowed to carry blinged out sidearms.

    2. If Glock did start making different cosmetic designs, where would production quality go? Yes, it is Glock so it probably would not slip very far, but it would slip, at least initially. The more complicated your production line is, the greater the opportunity for mistakes.

    3. Think of the Glock as a blank slate. It functions properly right from the box. After that the sky is the limit for personalization. Why should Glock produce 302 different variations of the 19 when we are just going to swap, cut and upgrade anyway just to "make it your own"?

    4. Rifle? I can see a combat shotgun before a rifle. They already have a steady LE market. Throw a Glock SG in front of bunch of LEO's and watch the fight to see which department will buy first.

Just my thoughts, agree, disagree or ignore as you like.

Gaston never made any pistols prior to the 17. Those prototype pistols were the 17. It is named "17" because that was the 17th patent awarded to Mr.Glock.

but I still (whiny, yeah, I know...) would like to see a different design.

What design changes do you want? What does the Glock design fail to deliver for you?

I would point out that while Ferrari does not make pick-up trucks, their cars do display differences in design and appearance...

Why would you want Glock to alter his excellent design merely for appearance?

A Glock is a Glock. If they made some drastic change it would be a loss to civilization as we know it. Just like when they put external extractors on the 1911.

All VW bugs looked the same. Excellent automobile. Why should Glock focus on appearance? As someone stated, their major business is MIL and LE, who don't care at all about looks. I like the plain simplicity of the design myself. Everything you need, nothing you don't

    YMMV

    GLOCKREAPER,

Well, the story I had heard was that it was named the "Model 17" because it took him 17 prototypes to develop it to his liking. To look like a total idiot, I can't find where I read that now. Typical...

Different designs? I don't know, surprise me.

How could he improve it? I'm not an Arms Engineer.

I am not really complaining about the subject. Just pointing out a strong desire to see him apply his brilliant mind to the industry for "something else". If I can't tell you what that might be, I'm sorry. I suppose that in some respects this negates my ability to complain, but there you have it.

A shotgun by Glock would be awesome, and yes, that does make sense. Such a weapon would (conceivably) be very useful and sought after.

Really, I was just floating an idea to see if anyone else ever wanted to see him design something new in firearms be it a pistol or otherwise.

    That's all!

I thought the only bad thing about Glocks were that they were all ugly. Especially if you're the BG on the receiving end of one!

The fact that Glocks all look alike means that to the wife they all look alike...ALL one of them...

I think this is exactly what Gaston had in mind.

My wife has NO idea how many Glock pistols I own!
