    What's the magic number?

I know there are alot of peole out there that carry an extra mag or two(or twelve). But what is that magic number of how many rounds needed when you are traveling back and forth?!

Or is the amount of your EDC's mag enough for you?

    Just curious

I don't think that there is a magic number. When SHTF, you may be fine with the five rounds in your snubby or you may need your whole ammo box from home.

In my case, I usually carry one extra mag for my EDC and a speed strip for my BUG.

Truthfully, that answer is going to be entirely subjective. I read an FBI report one time that stated that in most SD engagements only 4 shots were fired on average. I haven't been able to find that report since. The magic number you want is whatever you are comfortable with considering your environment. My magic number is 17. That's two 8 rounders plus one in the pipe.

Since I have switched back to carrying a double stack I have found myself just carrying the 11 that my EDC hols and not carrying a spare. Once I find a good double stack mag holder I'll probably start carrying one extra mag.

one gun or two? 1 spare reload or more?

Depends on where I'm going and my personal "threat assessment"

For ME- The answer is EDC + 1 full size mag.
    I carry a G27 most of the time & a G22 mag (10+15 rounds) If I have G19, then I use a G17 mag (16+17 extra.)

I carry 15 + 1 in my G19. I do carry an extra mag, not because I think I'll necessarily need 15 more, but I think it is essential in case of a malfunction.
There are people say..."If you can't hit em with 15, you're not gonna hit em with 30." They MAY be right, but mags can foul....

I personally don't carry a spare mag when I'm carrying my EDC(G26 with G19 mag). But when i'm carrying my S&W 637 snubbie, I usually have either two speed strips or two speed loaders.

So I guess my magic number is 15!

Depends on if I'm travel to and from work, or out running and about shopping. To and from work, just the 12+1 the gun holds. Out and about town I carry a spare 12 round magazine with me.

As much as you can carry. I'm with the old military idea of bringing as much ammo as you can carry.

Realistically for us we just can't load up all over with vests and packs. So I carry 1 spare mag with my 13+1 G23 for a total of 27 rounds. My 1911 is 8+1 with 2 spare mags for 25 rounds total.

I always have at least one spare mag. I for sure carry two, if I'm rolling with the 1911.

The simple fact that you’re carrying a gun already places you on the high ground. Also, you are likely more knowledgeable and skilled than a potential adversary.

For me, I’m good with whatever I’m carrying and if I’m feeling spirited, I'll drop a loaded moonclip in my left front pocket. BTW: I always carry a 'Plan-A' EDC in conjunction with my gun.

Depends. Around my area, I carry my 5 shot with a reload or my M&P compact with out a reload. So I guess the lowest that I would go is 10 rounds.

8+1 in my 1911 as well as one spare eight round mag. A twin mag pouch would be hard for me to conceal at 6' tall 130 lbs , YMMV.
