I have a P228 and a P229. The P229 is a little heavier (especially for the 40/357 model). I have CC'ed both for a period of time, no problems.
I wouldn't get the Elite, though. The beavertail looks like it'd get in the way.

Knowing is half the battle.
I have carried a 220 Carry Elite for a couple years now and have never had a problem with the beavertail. Prior to that I carried an all stainless P220 for quite a few years.
Very good advice so far on the 229. Definitely get the 40/357 version because of the capability to always convert it to 9mm. You cannot convert a 9 to 40/357. They are a bit thick when looking at concealing but in no way is it impossible.
My wife has a 229 Elite and it has been flawless. Not only is it a work of art but it is completely reliable.

Do you have an elite 229, with a beavertail? I really like the idea of the adjustable combat sights, but I don't know if that's very important. Evidently they only come on the 229 Elite. This will be my first purchase, and I want to be able to move into CCW with this purchase. I have a friend who loves carrying a P229 Elite. But I'd like a broader feedback. The 229 SAS Gen 2 looks nice, but you give up the adjustable sights. Maybe someone could talk about how important it is not to have to use/have the expensive tool to adjust the sights.

I don't think a P226 will be harder to conceal than a P229... but I have neither, so there's that. But they're equally fat guns, so the bulge is pretty noticeable without a very good holster and dressing around the gun.
Hakkaa päälle!
I carry a full size 1911 most of the time and own a Sig 220 Carry and just purchased a Sig 229. The 229 is thicker of course but can be carried concealed with the right holster and belt (TT Gunleather). I like the 1911 due to being so thin easily carried, the 220 Carry is nice as well. (I have not tested it with carry ammo yet).
I EDC a 229 now in a CBST, hides just fine and is a solid choice for a fighting handgun, one of the best IMHO.
