    purchased a new carry gun

i just had to get rid of my XD. i shot it a few times at the range and i really liked how it shot. but the list of things i liked about it stopped there. being left handed it was more trouble then it was worth to me. my wife bought it for me insisting i'd love it. and at the same time she was buying a S&W M&P for herself. which of course i got to play with it and i liked it a heck of a lot better then the XD. but she just wouldn't take no for an answer. so here is what i sold the XD for.

its a 40cal. i'm eventually gonna buy the .357 sig barrel for it and see what i like better.

i got a pretty good deal on this. $529.00 with trijicon night sights and 3 mags. the sales lady said it was military special.. meaning they could only sell it to a military member. i guess it was discounted. some of the other ones there with out the night sights were around $580. and on top of it being 529 bucks, i got a $50 mail in rebate from S&W. so i'm pretty happy with it.

Congrats on the M&P. Sometimes it just comes down to what feels best in your hand.

I'm left handed too...how did that matter and how is the M&P better?

Why is being a lefty an issue? My brother in law is left handed and recently picked up an XD but has yet to fire it. Does it eject into you?

The reason this gun is better for a lefty is that the slide release is ambidextrous. It's not on the XD, nor Glock.

Gotcha. Thanks. I always forget that's a problem for lefties.

On the M&P you can also switch mag release from left side to right side

The S&W is a fine gun, but why is the slide release an issue? Are you planning on using that release in a SD scenario? Don't get me wrong, always carry what you are comfortable with. That said, I don't know of a reputable defensive handgun trainer who would encourage a student to try to rely on the fine motor skills necessary to use the slide release in the midst of a tactical reload. For that, it's all about a full-hand grab-and-release. So if that was the issue it might have been no big deal.

FWIW I shoot lefty and just won a pistol course (bunch of guys shooting it from our church on a men's retreat, so it's not like it was heavy competition), and at least one competitor was LEO. (not me) Tac reload in the middle, full handed. He did the same.
