This is a discussion on I did this, how did I do? within the Defensive Carry Guns forums, part of the Defensive Carry Discussions category; Hopefully this is the correct forum....
I changed the grip safety on my Colt Ghost.
This started as a Wilson Combat drop in beavertail grip ...
I owned a Colt Delta Gold Cup years ago (I'm still kicking myself for selling it) and I got major hammer bite off it. It had a grip safety that looked just like this. I hope you are not going to have that problem.
If I knew what I know now I would have just gotten a beaver tail put on it and been very happy.
I think I left just enough on the bottom to prevent that, I hope so.
At discharge, recoil will work your grip up higher until the hammer comes in contact with your palm web. Unless you change out the hammer (or the grip safety), you're gonna get bitten.
Looks good, if this is a carry piece I wouldn't sweat it. At the range you can keep adjusting your grip to prevent the bite and in a self defense situation it will be a non issue.
