While I sometimes carry an auto off-duty, mostly I carry revolvers. Usually my carry setup consists of a 2 1/4" SP101 DAO, a 37-2 Airweight DAO, and two speed strips with 5 rounds of .38 Special LSWCHP+P (so I can reload either revolver as necessary). I also have a 3" SP101 DAO that sometimes comes along in place of the Airweight, depending on where I am going and what I am wearing. Once I can get the money together I am planning on replacing the Airweight with a M&P 340 so I can carry all magnum guns and magnum ammo for reloads. I recently shot a friends 340SC with Speer Gold Dot 158 grain .357 (which is a full power load). While recoil was heavy, it wasn't painful, and it convinced me that the slightly heavier M&P 340 is a feasible defense gun with real magnum ammunition, especially as a BUG.

When I carry a revolver I carry a 6 rd belt pouch. I usually also carry a speed loader in the off side pocket.

When I carry my S&W 642 I usually don't have any extra ammo - about a fourth of the time I will carry 5 more rounds. When I do carry the extra's I have them in a pop top prescription bottle.

    a prescription bottle?

Ingenious, and keeps any lint from the pockets away from the cartridges..

One spare mag with an auto and one speed loader or 6 round dump pouch with my 638.

On the rare occasions when I carry a revolver as primary, I'll carry at least one speedloader and one speed strip. When carried as a backup, which is the usual, I carry a speed strip with six rounds. With single-stack autos as primary, two spare mags, with double-stackers, usually only one spare, but sometimes two.

I usually carry a BUG, but I find my self still throwing in a speed loader in my cargos or a speed strip or two. I carry them strong side, push slide release, push out cylinder, turn gun muzzle up and hold in left hand, push ejector rod firmly down and let gravity help, grap reload and point gun muzzle downwith right hand and insert rounds, close cylinder. My BUG is P32 and I carry an extra mag b/c it is so small also. My 80% carry is 1911 and almost always carry a backup mag with that...

Whenever I carry the SP101, I also carry a speed strip with all six in .357.

If I carry the 610 I carry a pair of moon clips in a belt pouch and 6 spares in a Tuff Strip. I usually wear that gun exposed at the gunshop. If I carry my model 40 or some other J frame on me, It's usually a special occasion and I get by with a Tuff strip or two. If I carry the J frame off body (Maxpedition diaper bag) I toss a couple Tuff Strips in a little pocket of the bag. High capacity auto or J frame snub I always carry spare ammo.

when I carry a revolver I generally carry a speed loader with 5 more rounds. 10 total.
When carrying a semi auto, I rarely carry an extra mag. I am now carrying a G36 so I am thinking about having an extra mag with 6 more rounds.

I always try to carry at least 5 extra rounds with the SP101, and carry a spare mag with my auto's 95% of the time.

When I carry one of my 5 shot revolvers (Charter Arms Bulldog .44, Ruger SP101 .357, S&W 642 .38), usually I have at least one reload with me. I don't worry as much about a reload for my Glock 19, but I will carry a spare magazine for my Kahr CW9.
    God bless our troops!
