Colt Delta Elite
I had a Colt Delta Elite about 15 years ago. I traded it for a S&W 629. I wish I had it back. Is there any Colt Delta Elite owners out there that can tell me how they have stood up over the years. Back when I traded it the talk was they wouldn't last. Now that time has told the story, was that an accurate estimation. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I have the stainless version. It is scratched up, but could be polished up. I have not had any work done to it and it still performs flawlessly. I would expect the new ones to perform just as well.

I think you made an excellent trade. My 629 is rock solid after years of shooting and hunting. It is nickle plated and looks almost like new.

You can find ammo on the Internet, but is not very cheap: DoubleTap Ammunition

I have had 4 and still have a blue one. Never had a problem with any of them, just hate I didn't get a Delta Elite Gold Cup for $600 when I had the chance ! Just like any gun you need to take care of it and it will take care of you, in the time of need.

Of my three, only one has been shot enough to evaluate durability, barely. It probably has around 1500 rounds through it, half or more of which have been pretty light loads (180s at 1000 fps. or so). It shows no sign of battering or loosening beyond its original Coltish level of looseness. (One gets used to tight guns like Kimbers and Baers, and forgets...) Some of what I've run through it has been really hot stuff from Cor-Bon and Double Tap, along with a fair number of Silvertips, which are nothing to sneeze at. They will hold up fine for more dollars worth of ammo than most folks will ever put through one. To help enhance both reliability and life span of the gun, it is good to add an EGW flat-bottom firing pin stop, and to keep a full-power or heavier mainspring in a Delta. I use Wolff or ISMI 20 or 22 lb. recoil springs, too, and change them when they show more than a half inch or so of set.

A Nickel 629?? maybe because it's a polished stainless, but if it's really nickel, then it's been refinished. the "6" in 629 defines it's stainless steel.

You are correct. It sure looks nickle plated though, my mistake.

It seems that these have had a small come-back. Colt started selling them again (as far as I know, they may have never stopped) and I considered ordering one.
