    Kimber super carry ultra... rust

I just got my super carry ultra today, and upon opening the case, I saw the top of the barrel had rust on the end of it. I googled it and sure enough, there are many complaints out there of the same thing. This will be my edc, so I'm not super worried about it, but to spend $1200 + on a gun and have that!!! wow!

Other than that, this gun is awsome. This thing is so stinkin' accurate I can't believe it! I've only gone through 50 rds so far, but I can't shoot my other guns as good as this one!!

Is it superficial or into the metal? If it doesn't come off I'd ask if you could get a replacement barrel from Kimber.

Kimber has been known for years to have this problem with their barrels. nothing new, you may want to take some 0000 steel or brass wool to it. It's just going to return though

Go get some Flitz or Renaissance Wax and work the barrel with it and the very fine steel wool mentioned above, it will help prevent the rust from returning...*note I said help, not eliminate.

I'm not paying megabucks for a rusty gun out of the box. Period.

I'm not even paying cheapie bucks for a rusty gun. Even my Taurus weapons have not had this problem - sorry, I could not resist.

I should contact Kimber immediately and let them repolish the gun.
I agree with JD; I use Renaissance Wax and it is very good. I also use Eezox, which is the best solvent/rust preventative I ever tried before. I started to use those products after getting surface rust on one of my stainless pistol and then I had to repolish it

it's just surface rust, so I'm not super worried. I get some of that wax stuff and pollish it out.

They know that they have an issue with it. Why not just do a phosphate treatment like on AR barrels?

Maybe Kimber needs to invest in a barrel of cosmoline?

Because they're Kimber and don't have to because people will continue to buy their guns anyway despite them having rust issues, QC issues, magazine issues, plastic mainspring housings etc. BUT DANG ARE THEY PRETTY.

    I've had four.

The first was super, the last was OK, the two in the middle were almost the death of me. If the last hadn't been a pre-series II CDP I would have called it quits after the 2nd and 3rd.

kimber are nice and pretty but rust on a barral for a new gun is not good at all. just buy a Colt or Springfield 1911 might be cheaper in price but much better pistol.
