I have a Para P-14. Is the slide the same size as a Colt Government? I ask because I was thinking of getting a holster for it. I am also wondering how practical or impractical it can be to carry something like this.

Back and forth between a Commander and a 5". I use a Milt Sparks VMII and a Covert Companion from Wilson Combat.
Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~Paul Howe

I'm sorta looking (glancing out the side) at the Silent Thunder or Tucker Answer. Both have leather lined kydex and Answer has soft material on back between holster and skin.

I carry my government model in a Comp-Tac MTAC holster with a C.S.M. polymer lined Wilderness Instructor belt.
In fact I just looked up the holster info and the P-14 has its own shell for the MTAC. It's under the Para Ordnance dropdown selection.

If you want to OWB carry a full size full weight 1911 every day then be thinking good holster AND good gun belt.
One is just as important as the other and even the very best 1911 holster won't do a good job without a good gun belt.

That's an understatement but it can also be said about every other EDW carried as well.

I carry a P14 everyday in a Milt Sparks VM2 made for the 1911 Govt Mdl. It's one of the early alloy frames. Full up it weighs about as much as a govt model, but 6 more shots. I don't carry a spare mag. At the weight of a spare mag, I carry a PM 45 in the off side pocket.

Yeah, but it's especially important when your gun's empty weight is 38-42oz for a steel frame and slide! Plus another ten or eleven ounces with an eight round mag. and ANOTHER 10 or 11oz with an extra mag!
Just my $.02.

I trade out for off duty carry a Colt Officers Model and a standard 5". I sometimes carry my P-14 but that is my pretty (BBQ) gun and do not normally do it. I carry most of the time OWB with a very old Galco holster that is like the Askins Avenger.

I have carried a fullsize 1911 before. Right now, I carry a fullsize Beretta 92FS - which is the same size. I use an IWB Comptac pro undercover holster. It works great. I forget I have it sometimes too.
I believe the Pro undercover has been replaced by the Infidel model. Great holster!

I Carry My Kimber in a CrossBreed Super Tuck. It hid well in shorts and tee shirt.
Hitler once said, “The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerers who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.”
