I'd shoot the heck out of it, but I just don't know that I could stuff it in a holster.

Nice find no matter what you do with it!

WOW !! I'd be interested in date of manufacture. You ought to contact S&W before you breathe on it. The finish is one of the best that I've seen.

We had a bunch of them and 37's in my armory at a NAS I did a tour at. NIS and a couple others used them. For a short while I carried one while transporting military weapons(firearms) in our local area.

Great find for little money. How did you find it? Private sale? Gunshop? ------

Great looking Chiefs Special. The little J frame was/is a good carry piece, but this one your showing should definitely be preserved.

Thanks for all the kind interest in my little Smith find.

It was the last gun my local hole in the wall gunshop had from
a collector type guy who consigned about 30 pieces to the shop.

I have decided I will NEVER carry it , but I will shoot it a little
    (with very clean ammo )

I may even get a little wood case and some S&W knicknacks
    and Display it.

Good choice AK, I don't think holster wear would be bearable on that li'l beauty. That's right up there with finding a near mint Colt DS .

I have several J Frame Smiths that I carry as "Daytime, just run to town guns". Every firearm I have is a social user gun. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a look at me gun.

I do have some safe queens (three safes), but I'd carry them and shoot them in a minute if I needed to.

That was the 1st handgun I ever bought, a real thing of beauty, but couldn't hit a barrel at 25 feet with it. I quickly moved to a Colt Combat commander, and have stayed with 1911's since then. (1970) I must say I still love the way they look, and wish mine hadn't been stolen out of my truck.
