    Springfield XD Compact

They should've conferred with me before Springfield Armory produced their compact size XD. I'm referring to the model with the 4" barrel and the shortened, or "compact" grip, not the "subcompact" pistol. The Compact looks and feels like a perfect size to be an EDC CCW. So my question is, how come it only comes in a 45 ACP? With 9mm and 40 S&W being so popular for CCW, it seems a crime to not make a Compact chambered for these rounds (not to mention the fact that they are more economical to shoot at the range).

So instead I have to get the Subcompact and sacrifice barrel length, or get a full size and risk printing and uncomfortable IWB carry. Does this frustrate anyone else? Ok, done bitching. You may resume your regularly scheduled forum perusal.

Another question, and one I've asked many times, is... why don't they make the Subcompact in .45? Somewhere on their website it says that they believe that four inches is the shortest it can be made and still be reliable. But if that's the case, then why do they offer 3-inch 1911's?

I have an XD40c in my safe right this second, and have carried it many times. Not sure where your info is from.

You have a subcompact XD40. SA does not offer a four inch barrel with a compact grip in 40 or 9. They only offer the standard four inch barrel with the standard grip or the subcompact which is a 3" barrel with a smaller grip.

But back to the OP, I've found that the subcompacts shoot very similar to the service length barrels. I didn't think they would but it seems as if they do, and that seem to be the general consensus over at XDtalk.com too. I'd like to pick up a 45 compact though. Well I'd like to pick up a lot of things :D

Weight w/ Empty Magazine: 29 ozs.

    Caliber: .45 ACP
    Magazines: 1 - 10 Round Compact, 1 - 13 Round w/ Grip Extension
Barrel: 4.04” Steel, Melonite, Fully Supported Ramp
    Slide: Forged Steel, Melonite Finish
Sights: Dovetail Front and Rear (Steel) 3 - Dot
    Trigger pull: 5.5 - 7.7 lbs.
    Frame: Black Polymer
Recoil System: Dual Spring with Full LengthGuide rod
    Length: 7.3”
    Height: 5” w/ Compact Mag, 5.75” w/ Extended Mag

Barrel length is almost identical, the .45 being a hair longer and overall height is 1/2 inch more on the . 40 service model. How big a difference is that 1/2 inch going to make on wether or not you are printing? Get yourself a decent holster, like a crossbreed supertuck or a comp-tac and you shouldn't have any problems concealing an xd service model.

My wife is 5'2 125 lbs and her everyday carry is an XD .40 Service Model.
