I too admire this firearm from a distance, however I am reluctant to purchase one for PDW and here is why:

    1) light, fast round, great against armor, but not s good a chance at 1 shot stop as my .45
    2) Ammo is expensive!
    3) Ammo is really expensive!

On the pro side, I have seen video of a shooter taking a target at 160 tds, up hill from a bench with iron sights.

Up to you, but alot of $$ to tie up.

I've heard some say that the 5.7 will become extinct. Ammo is a problem.

I was worried about the ammo also but found a lot online for around $20 for 50 rounds. Not as bad as I thought it would be.

Ammo is everywhere I look for it and in plentiful supply. I haven't bought any for about 9 months, but it was $15 to $18 per box then.

The pistol is a hoot to shoot. The only thing about it that's bad is the loud report. At first the trigger was a little squishy, but it's turned into a nice clean, predictable break that I like.

The gun itself is high quality, robust, shoots clean and is accurate. I've never had a malfunction. I love the mags. The gun is pricey, I bought a used one and saved some cash, but they seem to be holding their value.

It's not an effective SD round, at least not nearly as effective as the more popular calibers. If you just want to target practice, there are better (and cheaper) options for that as well.
If you must shoot through entry level body armor with a pistol, it's a good choice...but it won't go through real body armor, and you can always make a head shot when the BG is wearing body armor, and generally speaking BG's (at least not the kind of BG's that civilians have to defend themselves against) don't wear body armor anyway. To sum it up, I can't see this gun as having any purpose other than being a rarely used BUG for very specific SWAT/counter-terrorism missions, or as a collectible piece.

    Pros: 20 rd magazine

Cons: those rounds have a smaller permanent wound cavity than a 380 fmj.

    Range gun. Sure.

    Carry gun. No.

My policy is..if I can't scavenge it (in a SHTF scenario) then I'm not carrying it.

It was the Murder weapon at Ft. Hood.
    Unfortunately, it was quite effective.
The US Secret Service is using the 5.7 FN Carbine, ammo won't go extinct.
It would be a fantastic HD Gun for a recoil sensitive shooter, hi cap, low recoil.

One more thing. It is GOOD to have a few ODD caliber weapons. During the Great Ammo Drought of 09 you could not find the popular calibers in Eastern NC. The shelves were populated with 5.7, 38 Super, 38 S&W etc.

True but that's assuming you have access to a store (SHTF/Katrina)
