TDA 40 Caliber for New Shooter

I am looking for ideas! I have a new shooter who has shot some different types and calibers of pistol. He likes the 40 S&W. He wants a Hi Cap / mid sized / Traditional Double Action pistol in this caliber. He's got about $400 to spend on the gun. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I love my XD. Shoots great, reliable and looks good. It is also easy to break down. It is a little too thick to CC in Missouri during the summer months. I bought mine for $499.

He may be able to pick up a Glock 22 or 23 police trade at a gun show for around that price. The S&W 4006 and similar model police trades can be had for around that price also. Shop some of your local gun and pawn shops with him if you feel comfortable with pre-owned firearms. Most of my firearms purchases like my vehicles have been pre-owned. Good Luck.

Used M&P40 full size, or M&P40 compact... gets my vote, not to snappy like the glocks are..

Check some of the EAA line. I do not own any but I am a CZ fan and they make primarily CZ clones that are very affordable.

    Really?

Used CZs can be had around $400 and new ones for not a lot more. Might want to haunt some of the forum classifieds. Some are over-priced but there are many good deals to be found with a little patience.

Stoeger Cougar is a great option. You could also get a used Sig 229 for around that price.

The Cougar and Witness may be the ticket. I've never seen a 229 under $500 myself, not in a long time. That would be this boy's dream!

The XD for sure. It's a great gun, you can find used ones for around $400, and there are TONS of holster/accessory choices...
