Soon I will be able to have a loaded handgun in the glove compartment of my truck. I have about 400-500 dollars to spend on a good handgun. Size and caliber do not necessarily matter. What do ya'll feel would be a good gun for keeping in a truck?

For a truck gun it is hard to beat a revolver in .357 magnum caliber. You can shoot either .38 specials or full house magnums. I don't know what prices are like in your area but you should easily be able to find a solid used revolver that meet your needs.
3" 357 magnum. However, I would not leave one in my truck at all times. Too much opportunity to have it stolen.

S&W Highway Patrolman 6" barrel (.357 / .38) if you can find one; a mod 27 (still made), same gun, better finish, more $$$.

I'd say a Ruger GP100 (3" or 4") or SP101 357 magnum.
lots of model 10's around........

Glock 23. Good caliber, yet still high capacity. Its just a glock, so nothing sentimental about it, if something were to happen.
Unless, by "truck gun" you are feferring to an all purpose bear killer?

I don't understand the concept of a 'truck gun'. I don't like leaving a gun in my truck, unless I can't carry in a particular place; then I'll lock it in my COM safe, temporarily, until I'm back in carry action.
My pistol is on my side, right where I can get it anytime, anyplace

J&G sales has former LEO S&W wheel guns on sale for less than $300. I have bought them in the past and were very happy with them.
Just put the $500 cash (in small bills) in the glove box. That way, when someone breaks in and cleans you out, you wouldn't have wasted your time buying the gun.
I have stored a firearm in my car...hidden in a CoM Safe for short periods of time, but never overnight.
As far as a gun? The Ruger SP101 (3") is a mighty fine 'sometimes in the truck' gun.![]()

I am a student and I am turning 18 soon. I cannot carry concealed quite yet but I am legally allowed to keep a handgun in my car.
I would go with a .357 revolver or a Glock.
Don't leave it in the car all the time though - it will probably get stolen.

If I was going to leave it in my truck I would go with a cheap LEO trade in. Revolver, 3rd gen S&W auto, glock etc... or purchase a new Sigma from buds which I believe are $250, 299-50 rebate from S&W or maybe a kel tec p11
Keep it in your door panel or center console where it's closer to grab should the SHTF.
