    S&W 642 range report

I finally got to shoot my 642 I recently purchased. I was not expecting much as far as accuracy, but boy, was I surprised! At the 7 yd. range, that little gun put 5 rounds into a 2" circle exactly to point of aim. That was using Winchester 125gr. +P personal protection half jacket HP. The recoil was snappy, but not bad at all. Other than the fact it's only a 5 shot, I found a keeper that's a pleasure to carry all day. I usually carry a G27, but there are times when that Smith will work better, and I'm fully confident with what it will do now. I don't know if that is a common experience with this snubbie, but I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, light weight carry gun.

Everyone should own a Centennial variant. The 642/442 series is an exceptional carry piece.

    Congrats on yours.

Welcome to the Snub Club... now go find a quality pocket holster and pick up some speed strips and speedloaders! You'll wonder how you ever got along without a snub for so long.

I already have all the above that I used for my Taurus 85. The Galco fits perfectly as do the speedloaders. I have'nt used the speed strips yet, but I can see where they're much easier to carry than a speedloader. Just have to get good at using them. The Taurus has been fine also, especially with the Crimson Trace grips, but I like the hammerless more for ease of drawing..plus the Smith is much lighter.
As far as a "pocket holster", any suggestions? I'm tired of collecting them and would rather start out with one that really works

I just got my Mika pocket holster and its awesome. it took almost 5 months to get it, but it was def worth the wait. I have the 642 with the power port and the nice sight on it. and the Mika does dont snag and when you draw it always remains in the pocket which is great!

I've got a Glaco summer comfort that is great IWB.

My favorite is a Galco that I can slip in the back pocket of my Levi's.

You will love the ease of carry.

My problem was, I just couldn't hit the side of the nearest barn

Welcome to the J-frame world! I love my 642 as well and yes, if you bear down on that front sight and do your part, that little snub will surprise you with its accuracy.

My 442 is my main summer carry piece...hard to beat in shorts pockets. With a little practice accuracy at reasonable SD ranges is no problem. You'll enjoy it!!!

Desantis Nemesis would be the one you are looking for.

Thats nice and clean, what's it made of? Being Desantis, I imagine I can buy it over the counter without a 5 month wait, which is nice.

I often pocket carry my 642 when not wearing any cover garment. My other CCW is the S&W CS45 when I do have a cover garment.

I like this holster the best. The Mika is OK, but the Desantis Nemesis is my favorite.
