I have a G19 but, I'd like the option of carrying a 45acp from time to time. I'd like to try something no bigger than the G19. Any suggestions?

The 1911 is the finest combat pistol ever made, and comes in .45. Everybody should own at least one. I'm partial to Springfield Armory's models myself. It's also a slim and easy to conceal pistol. Do you have any specific price range you are trying to stay within?
I would go Glock 30 or XD over the 1911
If you're interested in high capacity, Para Ordnance makes the P-10 which holds 10. They also make several Hi Caps in .40 S&W.
If your saying that the glock 30 is the better combat pistol because it holds 11 rounds vs the 9 rounds of a 1911 I have to disagree. I think the superb trigger and accuracy of a 1911 more then makes up for it's 2 less rounds. In addition the slim form factor makes it easy to carry in almost all weather. Also, single stack mags are easier to carry meaning you can comfortably and discretely carry more. And if worst comes to worst and you run out of ammo you can always beat the bad guy into submission with a 1911. Good luck doing that with a glock :)
I have 2 Kimber 45's. I love them and it's great shooting. A bit pricey but well worth it IMO.
I found that the G30 carries just as well as a G19. As stated earlier, 10+1 of 45ACP in a package that small with the ability to carry a 13-rd G21 mag for backup is noteworthy.
You already know what a Glock is like, so try a G30. 10-rd mag and will also take the 13-rd G21 mag for increated HD use or as CC backup. Sizewise, fractions of an inch differences
Ever look at the Taurus line?

My vote goes to the 1911; very slim and easy to conceal, great shooter, and IMO you will not find a better trigger anywhere. OK, you will “only” have 8+1 rounds, but I consider that if nine .45 cal rounds are not enough then that person is living a very rough life. You can also carry an extra mag in case of malfunctions.
1911 in a 4 or 4.25 barrel though iI love my full size, and by the way, I am always thinkin bout a 45!
Whoa is this a GLOCK vs. 1911 thread? It's about time we had one of those.
I carried a full size 1911 in .45 acp before I got my GLOCK 19. My 1911 isn't very reliable and my gunsmith fu is weak so I went with the best 9mm pistol out there. I've got a hankerin' for a GLOCK 30, like the OP. I do like my 1911 and it was fine to carry, but the GLOCK 30 does have a capacity advantage over most 1911's and they're pretty damn reliable from what I hear. I am sure there are some well made 1911's out there with good out of the box reliability, but I also hear of a lot of the well known 1911's that need a lot of tweaking and breaking in to become reliable. I think for the money go with the GLOCK 30, you're already familiar with the operation of a GLOCK, not that 1911's are difficult to operate, but when the SHTF simple is key.
