New Ruger LCP Mag Problem

I have a new Ruger LCP and am having issues inserting the magazine. Is it normal to have to slightly depress the mag release to insert smoothly? Otherwise it feels like the lips of the magazine catch on the release. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet, but have been working on reload drills. If I wiggle the mag when inserting, I do not have to depress the mag release.

That's normal in all of the LCP's that I've handled. You either have to slam the magazine in or depress the magazine release when inserting the magazine.

If you insert the mag forcefully a few times it will lossen up.

Most advise to depress mag release to insert the mag while breaking it in. After a while it will get easier and you won't have to slam it to make sure it is fully seated.

Thanks for the info. My other two semi autos never had this issue so I was a little concerned.

I would advise depressing the mag release if you look inside it almost looks as if it’s made of harden plastic and I would be afraid that it would break if repeated slamming, like at the range when just practicing

Mine was the same way.

After one range session it broke in nice and now the mags go right in no problem.

I would actually suggest just slamming it in. I was babying it at my last range session and had one instance where the mag was not seated properly, leading to a failure to properly feed. Train as you fight - just slam that mag in there.

That's what I did and it didn't take much to break it in. I never push the mag release when inserting the mags. If the pistol can't handle it, it isn't worth having.
