Those here that carry a Sig 239 I have a few questions

Well I put one of these on layaway today its used in like new in box condition with both magazines and all paperwork,I got it for $425 OTD which I thought was a great deal on a used Sig in this condition. Its a 9mm black finished one and I'm wondering how to best carry it IWB/OWB? Can those here who carry one of these recommend a good IWB rig for this gun? I saw a don hume PCCH IWB rig and it looked nice for the price,is this a good IWB rig?

Also is it true Sigs have a finish that rusts easily? I find this hard to believe but have never owned one or carried it any length of time,so I don't know. I've shot a few different Sig models and liked the P239 in 9mm a lot its very easy to shoot fast and accurately. Also do you feel the Speer gold dot 124gr. +p loads in 9mm will make a good defense load in this gun? Last thing is is the 239 9mm as reliable as other gun like Glocks and HK's? Thanks for any info guys

I've carried mine for the past 10 months in an IWB Desantis Cozy. I'm 6' 215lbs. I've got it hanging on a nice stiff leather gun belt. Because of the weight, your gonna need a good belt. As far as rust goes, I've had just a little bit. Being in Louisiana, I rub the slide and controls with oil every few months and wipe it down. I also wear a tank top under my shirt to keep the metal dry and away from my skin.

I have a 239/40 S&W. When I carried it, I used a MTAC Minotaur. I felt that the pistol carried very well in this rig.

Regarding the rusting issue, I did have rust show up on the grip screws but never anywhere else on the firearm.

IMO, Sigs are as reliable as Glocks, HKs, etc. I've never had a malfunction with any of my Sigs.

I have a Sig 239 SAS DAK and it tends to rust in an area on the slide where the Sig logo is etched. BTW my LCP had rust show up on the slide, sent it in for the "fix" and mentioned the rust issue. They took care of both, though it's rusting again. My SIL has noticed the same problem on his. It can be hot and humid here, but heck it's hot and humid in lots of places.

The last time I carried mine (239 9MM) I used one of Rocky's (Pure Kustom) holsters, and used it for both IWB and OWB carry depending on where I was going, and what I was wearing. This was during a couple months that I spent in Florida earlier this year. It was comfy enough that I usually forgot I had it on. One rig does all! (As usual when discussing holsters, your mileage may vary )

I also didn't really have any rust problems just using normal maintenance, considering it was hot and right near the ocean.

    Reliable? Oh, heck yes!

Sig Sauer for the most part is one of the finest line of not only handguns but they make awesome rifles and their knives use that awesome Japanese Seki City steel like Spyderco does. Having said that, Before the mid to late 90's their P220 P225 P226 P228 models basic finishes absolutely SUCKED. They would show general wear and prone to surface rust just from simple handling prior to even being sold to customers with added holster wear to follow. The exception was the almost $100 extra "K" kote finish you could get usually for the P220 and the P220 also came in a satin two tone finish that held up really well. When they came out with the P229 in 40 that all changed in about 1992-93, They finally got it right by making brushed stainless steel guns with the bluing on the outside and called it "Black Stainless". Now you can get all the models in basic black stainless or stainless two tone. None of this had a thing to do with reliability or accuracy as they have always been excellent shooters IMHO. The only major issue I had with them when I had my P220 in K kote and an all american nickel P220 amd a P239 like yours was the design of their hammers. The rear part of their hammers curve is as sharp as a freakin razor blade and you feel it big time on basic inside the pant holsters against your flesh and boy does it cut. The DAK's and the flush hammers and bobtail hammers on some of their models take away this issue for IWB Carry. Also that Cross Breed Super Tuck Holster one of the hottest IWH on the market right now takes care of hammer bite as well. Until I get one of those holsters though I will not carry a traditional Sig.

A good IWB rig I would recommend is one from Nate at UBG holsters....www.ubgholsters.com

SIGs rust easily?? I'd say as long as you take care (not necessarily baby) your P239, it will take care of you. I've carried my P229 and P239 everywhere...hiking, camping....I've submerged them in rivers and streams...and never had a problem. I will add, that when I had the opportunity, I wiped the gun down, wiped out the Kydex holster, reholstered, and carried on. There is nothing magical in the SIG that makes it "rust easily". However, as mentioned before, you may have issue with the grip screws showing some oxidation.

Speer Gold Dots.....many LE agencies carry this load...so as long as it feeds reliably in your gun, it's good to go.

I've had many models of SIGs in the last 16 years....all have served me well...

thanks guys for all the info and is anyone here familiar with desibian gun leather? I ran across them during a search and they look like nice rigs. I really like the IWB #2 it looks like a maxcon V I had for my 1911's (loved that holster),could they make me one for the Sig 239?

I haven't heard of them, but I would keep the site sponsors in mind when looking for a holster. I haven't been disappointed in Nate's work, considering I have two holsters from him and I looking at at third. Good luck on the search!
