Did you realize the M&P 9mm & .45ACP slide and frame are the same size?

Well, almost. My .45 ACP will fit the leather holster for my 9mm like a glove except the .45 barrel and slide is a little longer than the 9mm service pistol so the barrel and slide of the .45 will want to poke out the bottom of the holster.

But the frame length (i.e. dust cover length) is the same. If your holster is molded straight at the muzzle, the .45 may just slide right in, even if it's a kydex holster. But I haven't confirmed this yet since I don't have a kydex holster - yet. I have a Blade-Tech M&P Series Holster for my 9mm on the way and as soon as it gets here, I'll confirm this.

The grip of the .45 is just a bit bigger, but not by much. Of course, since the grip doesn't go in the holster, it doesn't affect holster fit. The Blade-Tech M&P Series Holster is contoured for the dust cover, but straight for the slide and barrel - it just may work, well the slide and barrel will poke out just a bit.

I've read on the M&P Forums, that most of the holsters are interchangeable with little or no adjustment.

OP what M&P's do you have? full size 9? mid-size "compact" 45?

My Blackhawk Serpa holster for my M&P40 full size also holds a Glock 23 2nd Generation.

Actually the 45 frame is a little wider,I just measured and it's only about .010 thicker which isn't much, and a leather holster should stretch enough to accomodate, the barrel length is different,a FS M&P 9/40 should fit a 45 compact

I have a full size .45 and a full size 9mm. The full size .45 has a bit longer barrel and slide than the full size 9mm, so if the holster is 'trimmed' exactly to the 9mm muzzle length, the .45 will stick out a bit.

That's what I got too - 0.010" - I don't think that little difference would matter even in a kydex holster, but I'll know for sure when my Blade-tech holster arrives.

I hope they're right, it sure looks that way to me right now.
