    S&W 629 Kaboom

Just received these photos from my father-in-law. All we know about the situation was that these were the shooter's own reloads and he's now got a nice gash in the ol' forehead.

Eh, that will buff right out.

Glad to hear the shooter is reasonably ok.

Probable double charge. It is easy to do with some powders such as unique, if you don't have a good system down. Or aren't paying attention.

Really? When reloading 9mm it's impossible for me to place a double charge with Unique.

Thats because the 9mm case volume is small,A 44 mag usually holds a charge around 11 grains of unique off the top of my head I believe I could double charge the case without any spillover,I don't have time to see just how many grains I can get in a 44,but that is a serious KB

wow a gash on the fore head is mush less than i would have though. Looks like 3 rds went kb. That would suck. poor little 629

You could easily put up to 3 charges of that load in a 44 before it reached near the top of the case.

Looks more like the Glock in the next stall Kaboomed, and the top three rounds in the revolver experienced sympathetic detonation....

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

My brother had this happen to him. The only difference is that the top strap over the cylinder was only bent up. it wasn't blown off the gun. The second shot he took KBd and set off two others. No one was hurt thankfully.
