Based on what you already have, if I were in that position with $800 burning a hole in my pocket, I'd go with a Sig or H&K.

I had a M&P .40 not long after they came out. It was a nice gun and I really like it. I just didn't shoot is as well as several of my friends XD's so i sold the M&P with plans to buy an XD. Things happen and I never bought the XD.
That said, I just bought my first 1911. You can find a nice 1911 for less than $800 especially if you're open to a used gun.

    Just my 2 cents

Go with the Glock. Like you said, you're already familiar w/ the platfrom.

It is better to have your gun and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

    I'd get the P226 Equinox.

Since you are familiar with shooting Glocks, choosing another handgun with a striker type trigger system like the S&W M&P would keep things consistent between your guns.

The M&P Pro 40 was announced last January at ShotShow 2010, but has only in recent months become available. Here is a dealer selling the gun for $609:

Best deal that I know of for a standard M&P 40 with tritium night sights is $519 here:

So you are only paying a $90 premium to get the better trigger sear that the Pro model has. Normally this costs $110 dollars plus shipping for S&W to install on a standard M&P for a gun shipped to the factory.

Through Oct 3rd, Smith and Wesson is offering either a $50 rebate or two extra free high cap mags to anyone that buys any M&P handgun.

Another option would be to buy the standard night sight M&P 40, and then install the Apex Tactical sear and striker block ( total cost $75 ). Some folks prefer it

The M&P 40 is my favorite combat handgun. Here is it on the left next to my Beretta PX4:

    M&P = Love

I own 2 M&P9 Pro's and will surely own the M&P40 Pro when it shows up locally.
