    Springfield EMP 40

Finally got an EMP 40. Been loking at one for over a year now, and finally ponied up. I can say that this is one fine gun. The way it feels in the hand is very natural, and it seems to point well also. My plan is to use the EMP as my every day CC gun. I am leaning towards a cross breed holster. The reviews seem to be very positive. I do have one qestion to the other EMP owners. I find it a little difficult to pick up the front sight in the day light. Could just be my old man eyes. Anyone using or know of a different front sight opton for the EMP? Plus the gun, all though very accurate seems to shoot about 5-6" low at 7-10 yards. Could be me since I'm just getting familiar with the gun ,and have only put 150 rounds through the gun so far. Will try it off sand bags at 25 yards this weekend to see if it was me. On the positive side, it functiond great with 180 and 165 grainers. And the groupings where pretty much a 2-3" hole once I kept the same aming point.

I have, and love, an emp 9mm. Mine is dead-on accurate, and I usually shoot at 20 yards.
Surprised to hear that you're shooting so low at 7-10. Let us know if you get the same results this weekend using the sandbags.
My eyes aren't that great either, but I haven't had a problem seeing my front sight.
BTW, how's the recoil on the 40?

Brass63, I only have a glock 22 to compare it to. But, In my opinion it has less kick. I had read where people where reporting that the 40 was sharp or had a lot of slide jump (snappy). I did not notice any. I thought it was great and other than shooting low it is way more accurate than the glock by a supprising amount. I am really going to like this gun. Just need a little more time with it. Hopfully its just me shooting low, if not it sounds like Springfield is more than willing to take care of any problems.

Yep, Springfield's customer service is first rate. Don't hesitate to give them a call if you have any problems.
I almost bought the 40cal version, but backed out after speaking with a Springfield rep who told me that both the recoil and the stout recoil springs might make the gun a bit of a challenge for my small-sized wife.
But after hearing your take on it, I'll put the emp 40 back on the 'short-list.' I like their heavier steel frame.

Brass63, I will agree with the rep on the stout recoil spring. It makes dissasembly a little challenging at first. I did notice that after the first 150 rounds that it was a lot easier to rack the slide. I would guess that as the gun gets broken in that it will be even better. I'll keep you posted.

I'm glad the EMP40 is working for you.My EMP9 is a great gun but like you I also have trouble with the front sight in the daytime.
Please PM me if you find a good set of sights for it.

44thumper I do not have the EMP but I do have the Micro Compact 45ACP. The problem I had was similar to yours. But mine was shooting 6-8 inches low. I thought maybe it was shooter error, since I have not shot a little 3 inch 1911 in several years. So I got my son and one of my friends to test it for me, and they both had the same results. Anyway long story short I advised Springfield of my problem, and sent the gun back. Turns out that had the wrong sights on it. After getting it back with the correct sights it is 100% dead on. Springfield has a reputation for good customer service, and now I can attest to that reputation. They were great!

thinktwice, thank you for the response. I have not had a chance to get the gun back out to the range yet. I'm going this weekend, I hope, with a friend who was former law enforcement and a great shooter. We hope to determine if its me or the gun. I talked to SA and they said they would take care of it if it turns out to be the gun. No matter what the outcome,I'm still happy with gun . It looks and handles great, Even though it shoots low, it groups in about a 2-3" cluster at about 10 yards. The way i see it,things can only get better with time and practice. I'm glad to hear yours was taken care of also and with great results.I,ll update after the shooting sesion saturday.

Sorry about pictures, will try to get soe up later. Got a chance to shoot again today. Still seems to shoot low. It also will shoot left if I am not careful of my trigger control. I tried to shoot at 25 yards off the bags but wiyh my old eyes I did not do the gun justice. I will definatly need to look into a different front sight. The EMP has 275 rounds thru her now without a hitch. Something else i noticed, is that there is a lot of take up in the trigger. I'm not sure if this is normal since its my first 1911 style gun. The trigger break is fine after the slack is taken up. This is why I have to watch my trigger control to keep from pulling left. Could all be just me getting to know a new gun. The EMP seems to like 180 grainers better than 165's. will keep experimenting. Still havin fun ;still love the gun. Will post pics soon.
