Les Baer 1.5 inch Premier vs. Springfield Pro

I'm buying a new pistol. I'm considering a Les Baer Premier II with a 1.5 inch guarantee, and a Springfield Professional. I don't shoot 1911's, but feel like getting myself a "treat". It won't be a carry gun (I carry Glock), and it's not a bedside gun. Maybe some competition.
    Opinions?

You probably would not be disappointed with either, both are great guns from what I understand. The Baer is a little cheaper price wise.

The Baer will be the "quicker" purchase, they are more common than the Springfield Professional models. I would opt for the Baer.

I'd go with the Baer given options you've chose. Ever handle a Wilson or a Nighthawk?

I found an available Pro, 2250. The Bear w/ the 1.5 inch guarantee at 1840. Both in stock. I think the Baer seems like the better shooter with that guarantee, but there's a reason the FBI chose the Pro. I can get either in my hands in 3 days.

I've shot several Wilsons. They're very nice, well made, and I like the idea of the bullet proof parts and the great customer service. I shoot with a lot of Wilson guys.
I've never shot a Nighthawk. Considering they're made by old Wilson smiths, aren't they very similar?
Actually, I also considered a Brazos or Dawson tuned STI in hard chrome.

Having three Les Baer pistols and one Professional, if I were to do it over again, I'd probably start with the Professional.

I seriously doubt you would be disappointed with either though.

Any Pro less than $2500 is a good deal.

The Pro's accuracy requirements are fairly stringent.

The accuracy requirement, however, was yet another requirement that bordered on the impossible. This stipulated that the pistol fire three consecutive 10-shot groups no larger than 1.5 inches at 25 yards from a Ransom Rest using service ammunition. The pistol then had 20,000 rounds fired through it and was again tested for accuracy. No more than a 15% accuracy reduction was permitted.

Between the two, I would definitely go Baer. I don't care how much custom work they're doing on it, Springfield should incorporate more of that in to their stock guns. They're not a custom shop.

No, the whole of Springfield Armory is not a custom shop, but they do have a custom shop, and the Professionals are built there. If you have any doubt, call 1-800-617-6751 (the custom shop) Monday and ask for Dave Williams, the man in charge of the custom shop.

Springfield Professional is more of what I'd consider a "working gun". The gun you bring out when you want the most reliable service 1911 you can get. The Les Baer is what I consider a target gun. Not that it can't be used in the same manner I spoke of the Springfield, but the Springfield Professional was built with LEO service and special needs in mind. It'll take the beating and keep on running like nothing happened.

I'd go with the Springfield, it's probably the more rare of the two as well. Have you handled both? The Springfield has more aggressive serrations at a lower LPI than the Les Baer if I'm not mistaken. That might make a difference to you. I prefer the more aggressive texture because the higher LPI serrations tend to cut into the hand a bit because they are more "sharp" feeling to me.

Springfield Armory has a full blown custom shop much like your Nighthawk or Wilson Combat. You can order a base gun and have any modification you wish done to it in house with the factory warranty. It's not cheap, but it's of the highest quality. The Springfield Custom shop is on the same level of Bill Wilson, Ed Brown, Jeff Phillips etc.
