m&p 40c slide problem ?
I got an M&P40c about a year ago and since then I have put about 6,000 rounds through it. When I first got it when shooting the slide would lock back when I still had rounds left in the mag. That would happen once or twice maybe every 200-300 rounds. So I didn't like it but it is the only gun I can conceal really well since my xd and 1911 are full size. And I got pretty fast at figuring out the malfunction and slingshot the slide to get it back up. But yesterday I went to the range and shot maybe 500 rounds through it and it locked back probably half the time and really made me mad. I have shot a friends m&p40c and never have that problem so I don't think it is me limp wristing or my grip but I was wondering could it be the slide lock spring? Should I contact S&W and see what they have to say or take it to a gunsmith and have them look at it?
Thanks,
Etnie

I would contact S&W and see what they have to say. They will probably tell you to send it in to be looked at. If you can go without the m&p for a couple weeks then I would contact them to send it in.
I have the exact opposite problem. My slide doesn't lock back on my full size or compact 9mm. It isn't a malfunction though, it is the way my thumb rests on the slide release.

Without looking at the gun, it is hard to evaluate. However what usually is happening is that a cartridge in the magazine is pushing up on the slide release. This can be cured by a) replacing the release, which might be slightly out of spec or b) modifying (filing down) the old release so that the shells don't hit it, but the magazine follower does. It's a simple and inexpensive project for any gunsmith.

If it's an issue call S&W, they will fix it no problem.

Thanks everyone I think im probably going to contact S&W and I will carry my xd or my 1911, Ill just have to dress around them since they are full size. But I feel like if S&W will fix it free I would rather them do that then me having to pay a gunsmith even though it wouldn't cost that much probably.
Automatic, I'm going to try to really look in there and see if a round might be hitting the slide lock, I hadn't thought about that before.
But thanks everyone, hopefully I will have it fixed soon.

If your handy working on guns, it's not hard at all to change the slide release spring, yours is most likely a little weak, that's all. S&W can just send a new one out to you.

I contacted S&W and they are going to send me a new slide realease spring, and i will just put it on myself. Hopefully that will fix the problem. The slide release on my M&P is also very hard to push down to release the slide but the manual says it is a slide lock and you shouldn't push it down to release the slide that you should slingshot it. But Hopefully just replacing that spring will help and im going to pick up a couple new mags to see if that makes a difference, I need them anyway all i got are 2, one with extended pinky grip and one that fits flush.
Againt thanks to everyone that replied to help me
