M&P Mag Prematurely Releasing
Well, I think I may have an issue with my M&P9c. I have the full size mag with the grip extender for it that I use at the range and it seems to be releasing the mag after almost every shot. At first, I was sure I must be bumping the mag release with my thumb, but now I'm not so sure. 3 other people tried it with the same result, and beyond that, I would think the mag release shouldn't be so soft as to release the mag on a slight nudge during recoil.
Now, it releasing the range mag is more of an annoying more than anything since that mag is only used at the range, not in SD; however, I think it may be doing it sometimes when I'm shooting it with the short magazines that came stock with the gun. This would be a problem as they are what I carry it with and have loaded for SD in my home as well. I'm still not sure that I'm not bumping the mag release with my thumb occasionally, but I still wonder if a mag release should be that sensitive.
Has anyone heard of this happening with the M&P's?

This has been reported on the boards with earlier M*Ps, I have not looked into it lately. Just out of curiosity, does it do the same with the standard mags in place? Call S&W, and they will either have you send the gun or maybe send you a mag catch, depending. It has been reported most commonly, in the compact models but a couple of years back.

Pull the mag release out (it's a simple operation, instructions in the manual) and see if the top edge is rounding off. Some of the early guns had magazine releases that weren't hardened properly. I had the issue with my 9c, and S&W sent me three spares free. Just call them, and they'll set you up.

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll pull out that mag release when I get a chance and take it from there.

If that's not it I wonder if the grip extender is not allowing the mag to be fully seated. Just a thought.

I was thinking the same thing, so I'll have to take the extender off of the full size mag and try it that way. But, it still worries me that it's happening sometimes with the small mag in...

Called Smith & Wesson today and they're sending me a box tomorrow to ship it back to them. They're paying shipping both ways and send they shouldn't have it at the shop more than 5 days.
The work hasn't be done yet, but so far, I'd say this a great start!

As an owner of more than one SW gun, I'm glad to hear they're taking care of the issue on their dime!!

Might be something a urologist can help with.
