Smith & Wesson (M&P) Awarded ATF Firearms Contract
After Sig was dropped due to reliability concerns, everyone in the gun forum world predicted an easy win for Glock... Surprise, surprise! The M&P has emerged victorious, and is now available to multiple agencies under the ATF contract.

Wow! That has to be a big blow to Glock, I am seeing more and more M&P's out there. They are just great firearms! Go USA!

I'm happy to see that both the full-size and the compact models are covered by the contract.

I have to say that from the 40-or-so rounds I put through an M&P9 Pro--good call. Sweet shooting gun!

$40,000,000.00.
Give me that much money to buy a gun, I'll buy an M&P and a Glock, and pocket the rest. Man that's a big contract.

I am curious if anyone knows if any other guns were looked at? I only saw these 3 which are all good guns but was wondering how they decided on these 3?

Buy American products from American companies. It creates jobs and boosts our economy. There should be more decisions like this one.

Gov't bidding process. The ATF put out a request for proposal (RFP) for polymer guns in full size and compact models. Companies respond with a proposal of their offerings. The ATF evaluated all the proposals and everyone that met their requirements (phase 1) when on to the live fire testing (phase 2). Sig, S&W & Glock all passed phase 1 and went on to phase 2. Sig didn't make it through phase 2 so didn't continue on to phase 3. Apparently the ATF was equally satisfied with the S&W & Glock at the completion of phase 3 and awarded the contract to both.

I own two M&Ps, and one Glock (G4). Not a thing wrong with either one, although I prefer the M&P for fit, finish, and ergonomics. It's good to see an American company doing well.
