Thumbs up My 1st 1911, today

I received my 1st 1911 today, RIA 1911 fullsize GI model, purchased from a DC member here, dstringf. Great guy, great gun, great deal. I carried it to a dinner meeting this evening IWB and man it carries great. Based on all I've read here, I carried it cocked and locked. That's no different than carrying my XD40sc chambered...it's cocked and doesn't even have a frame safety (just the grip and trigger).

It feels great. I completed the 1911 function check from the sticky here and all is well. I checked the firing pin function with a #2 pencil and it shot it across the room. I studied a youtube video on field stripping and did that too, just so I would know (gotta get a 45 bore brush pronto). It came with the hogue grip as well as the original wood grips, original box, 6 magazines, and a Serpa Blackhawk holster (paddle/belt combo).

I'm really excited and hope to get out and shoot it in the next day or so. I picked up 25 rounds of Remington 230gr JHP for carry (that's 3 mags and one in the pipe) and a box of 50 FMJs to shoot. I've had handguns 30 years and never had a 1911 until now. I can see the appeal, and I'm sure addiction once you shoot them (I have shot a buddy's before). Man, that .45ACP DWARFS 9mm...not to start a caliber war, shot placement is king and 9mm is just fine (I've got 3 of them and carry them regularly). I was just surprised at the two rounds side-by-side.

Anyway, I know "This thread is worthless without pics" so on to the gun porn. It's nothing fancy, just basic black, plain and simple...exactly what I was looking for. I get the distinct feeling this will get a lot of carry time!!!

Congrats on the 1911; it might be your first, but not your last

You do know those guns were declared unsafe right? Send it to me immediately for proper disposal, along with the ammo, extra mags, holster and any other accessories. ;)

Congrats!! Not sure what you mean about a "frame safety". It has a thumb safety and a grip safety just as it should.

I think he meant his XD40sc does not have the frame mounted thumb safety.

Good deal! Hope your range time proves you've got a winner.

When the day (and funds) come along that allows me to buy another pistol, the basic GI version is exactly what I want. I don't care for all the fancy bells and whistles, just give me one that looks like it was carried up the Normandy Beach.
