I've heard good things about the Para GI expert as well as the Desert Eagle 1911.

Others at the price range I would check out are the Springfield A1 and the STI Spartan

Springfield GI is a good one I am told. The Para's are good guns from what my CCW instructor says, he carries one daily, from what I am told the Paracoat finish is a bit weak and wears off fast.

I've had a Para GI Expert for about 3 months now. It's my first 1911. I haven't had any trouble with it yet.

Im looking at the para gi excpert series too, or the springfield gi or mil sepc...

they also have a gi expert ESP which has some nicer features:

    beavertail grip wiith speed bump,

light weight match trigger, with adjustable over travel.

    fiber optic front..

    My advice:
Avoid any Para product like The Plague!
Sketchy quality and The Worst customer service in the industry.

I had a friend looking to sell his warthog recently. Maybe that's why. I saw some cheaper springfields, and a remington around the same price. May check out the remington

I haven't shot the remington r1 but handled one at a local shop it seems pretty well made. I have a springfield GI and its one of my favorite guns, very reliable and smooth I can definitely recommend one. Have a few buddies with para's and I don't hear anything good from them seems hit or miss with their quality.
