I have a total of 6 eight round magazines with my RIA 1911 (full size GI). I typically carry 8+1 and two extra eight round mags. That's 25 total rounds, but more importantly it reduces the odds of having 3 magazine failures in one situation. I wouldn't be surprised by 1 (that's the main reason we carry extra mags), and murphy's law says 2 isn't out of the question.....3 magazine failures in the same incident???? Statistically more unlikely, but not impossible. Single stack mags are very easy to carry two extras.

I agree. IMHO they make the best 1911 magazine on the market.

I recommend carrying at least one, but prefer carrying at least two, and sometimes carry three spare magazines, and including the one in the gun, they are all Wilson 47D's. I change carry magazines on a six month basis, so that's at least eight magazines right there.

Thanks for the replies everyone, looks like one or two spare mags is the norm. I need to order a couple more, I have the factory Kimber mag and a Kimber Kimpro 8 rounder.

I forgot to mention the gun make and model, guess I did not think about it for some reason, it is a Kimber Pro Carry II (as seen in my signature).

I used to carry two spares, until I started packing a j-frame in addition to the 1911. Now I carry one spare magazine, and one speed strip to reload the j-frame.

I've got a Wilson Combat in the pistol, and a Chip McCormick as the spare. When I used to carry a 2nd spare, it was the stock Taurus mag.

Note to self: get more 1911 mags
