1911 magazines
With the 1911's typically (from the little research I have done) being between 7-8 rounds, how many does the typically 1911 carrier carry? I have only carried my 1911 a few times since my Crossbreed is still not here and honestly I have not carried a spare mag, but once I am carrying daily I plan to. Just not sure how many to have. Note, currently I have one 7 and one 8 round magazine for my Kimber and plan on one or two more down the road.

It never hurts to have a few Wilson 47D's around the house.

I usually carry a 1911 with two spare mags.
My range bag holds about another dozen 47Ds and ETMs.
My nightstand 1911 has a 10 rounder from Wilson
My "get home bag" has either 4 or 6 additional 10 round Wilson mags at any given time.

I typically carry mine 8+1, plus 1 spare 8 round magazine. On rare occasions I will carry 2 spare magazines.

I have been really super impressed with these CerTac 8 magazines recently being stocked by Evolution Gun Works. They are super nice and built like a tank for $29.99

A message from Christopher Provost
The magazine is the heart and soul of a competition or carry pistol. The pistol is useless if the magazine fails. Additionally most magazines were produced as an add-on or an ancillary item to the pistol. No one really thought about what is truly required in a high stress environment.
After years of working with what the industry considered the “standard” by which all 1911 magazines should be judged, I realized they really aren’t that great. The delrin followers were prone to wear; the springs would become weak with use. I had sold hundreds of those magazines for a famous Arkansas pistol manufacturer but they weren’t all they were touted to be.
Finally in frustration I sat down with all the magazines of the industry trying to find a better product. When none would meet my needs we decided to make our own. What you will find is our magazine is logical, functional and yet beautiful.
Notice the magazine has numbers down the middle. The brass or nickel cases shine toward the number giving you quick access to the count. Others have the numbers on the side forcing your eye to jog back and forth. The follower is metal, not some plastic part that will break with hard use or some antiquated design from the 1900s. The base plate is wide and triangular to provide better removal from your mag pouch and to disperse the pressure over as wider area as you insert it into your pistol. Finally, the tube; it didn’t catch your eye didn’t it. Place our magazine next to one of yours. Did you notice our tube is longer, but our OAL may be shorter? We can put a longer, heavier spring into our tube allowing more positive feed of your ammunition into your pistol. An added benefit of this stronger spring is when the gun goes to slide lock, the slide is fully locked! With other magazines the slide lock would become a questionable occurrence if your springs were old or the magazine had been kept loaded for a period of time.
I’m so confident in my magazines I sent them down for evaluation with some of the finest military and Law Enforcement agencies in the country. I gave them to competitive shooters competing in IDPA and the only responses I’ve gotten back were good ones. Order some mags for yourself and you be the judge. I think you’ll find this magazine to be logical and well made.

With any single stack I carry two extra mags.

Thanks for the feedback. The first reply said 47D from Wilson. I have looked at their site, I am 1911 dumb, how do I know which magazines will work in my specific firearm (that does not just go for Wilson but any maker).

That is actually what I have loaded in mine right now, a Kimber Kimpro 8 rounder. Dont know why the gun came with a 7 rounder when an 8 fits flush.

If you have a standard 1911, the Wilson 47D will fit it. It has an 8 rd capacity but is the same length as the 7 rd. When I carry my Kimber Pro-Carry I always pack two additional mags for a total of 3 (one in the gun). There are larger capacity mags, but they will protrude from the bottom of your gun. Mentioning the type of gun you have helps. Some 1911's such as those with 3" barrels have shorter frames. Wilson mags will fit and function, but will be longer than the frame. 1911's built to officers specs also use a different mag, but can still use the Wilson mags.

I carry 8+1 and one extra mag. I use Wilson 47D or Tripp Cobra mags, they both work 100% of the time.

7 + 1 in the pistol with an extra 7 round handy, Tripp magazines.
No internal lock or magazine disconnect on my pistols!
