Trijicon Front Sight Problem with a Beretta 9000S

I had installed the following on my pistol:

BE07Y: Beretta 9000 3 Dot Green Front & Yellow Rear

While firing last Thursday for my G (armed security) requalification, I was going through a two shot series. I drew, fired the first shot, then when I went to fire the second shot, the front sight was GONE. Could not be located on the firing range, even if the lights were turned off.

Finished and passed the requalification ok with a borrowed Glock.

Took the gun to the gunsmith who had installed the sights. He was able to replace the lost sight at no charge to me, but indicated that there might be a problem with size of the sight fitting into the dovetail on the slide.

He thought the problem might be Beretta's.

    Has anybody seen this problem?

Does anybody have any ideas on how to have the sight tightened into the dovetail?

Is this a Trijicon problem perhaps?

I don't have a Beretta, but I've never had a problem with the Trijicon sights on my Glock 19.

Had you sent the slide directly to Trijicon they would have fit a front sight to your Beretta dovetail and aligned it with a sight puller tool. If the front sight is still very loose, I would discuss with your gunsmith and possibly suggest using an oversize front sight that can be fitted or possibly using one drop of Loctite Super Glue Liquid Control with the existing sight.

I have a 9000 S with Trijicons, and have never had a problem. Is it possible that whoever did the initial installation 1) Drove the old sight out/new sight in the wrong direction, thereby enlarging the dovetail and/or 2) Forgot to stake the new sight?

I was looking at a web site for a new front sight for my JFr. 342 and I came across a blurb about Trijicon sight's that were too loose and what to do about it. It suggested dimpling it with a center punch as close to each end as possible before installation. I don't remember the web site as I looked at a bunch.
