I would take the GLOCK 17........though my 34 would be close behind.

HK45C compact -- same size as a G19 but in a .45 caliber, optional manual safety, accurate, concealable, and built to last; no compromise ;-)

Only handgun I own for a reason. Fantastic for CC, full size mags for home defense, ergonomics that are superb (obviously my opinion).

Wanted to love my Glock 19, but grips were just a hair to large for me to shoot accurately enough for my comfort.

A tough choice indeed! I love my 1911's (.45 ACP) and prefer the Government over the Commander. However, from a reliability, durability and multi-application standpoint, I have to cast my vote for a 6" .357 magnum - S&W 686. It will (in my experience) kill deer and smaller to 100 yards (works great on hogs too!); too large for concealed carry, but I have in a pinch; easy and comfortable to shoot all day long. It also has fewer moving parts to wear out than a semi-auto. I don't like being limited to one handgun, but in the spirit of the question, that would be my choice.

    If I couldn't have a 1911, I think I would pick the 686 also.
