    Question Dan Wesson Guardian

Just when I thought I had all the bases pretty much covered when it comes to my small handgun collection, I've started to lust after this Commander-sized 9mm.

I've seen a few references to this gun on the forum, but was wondering a) does anyone own one? and b) even if not, what are your opinions?

I think the Dan Wesson line of 1911's are pretty well regarded, if pricey.

    Here are some specs...

I have a DW CBOB in 45ACP. Dan Wesson makes some of the finest 1911s on todays market IMHO. As I understand it, they had mostly Ed Brown internals for the last few years but have now started making their own. The price has gone up on their products recently so I'm glad I got mine when I did. They have some new products coming out this year and one of them is the .357 revolver with inter-changable barrels like they used to make.
You can get lots of info from the 1911 forum under the DW sub group.

I've looked at the Guardian and liked the way it felt. Just can't justify the cost for a safe queen. Can't see the circumstances where it would replace my DW CBOB for carry. While the MSRP is about $1500. you should be able to pick one up for about $1300.

BTW, I have considered one for my wife.

    Dan Wesson Guardian

Has anyone had any problems with the check-mate magazines like not wanting to let go of the first round when releasing the slide? I even bought some new check-mate magazines thinking the ones that came with the Guardian were bad but they all do the same thing. They jam the weapon. I'm uncomfortable with that product now.

Not familiar with the check-mate magazines. Is the round hanging up on the feed ramp? You might want to try a Wilson Combat magazine to see if that solves your problem.

I own a Dan Wesson Guardian in 9mm. My experience with this pistol has been completely positive, this is without a doubt the most impressive 1911 platform pistol I've owned in 45 years of 1911 ownership. I'd hesitate to guess the number of 1911's I've owned both .45 and 9mm, but it has to be at least a dozen. The Dan Wesson Guardian exhibits "0" machine\manufacture marks, the fit is to very close tolerances, their Duty Finish, which I understand is a ceramic bonding, is absolutely flawless and tough as nails. After many many trips to the range and many hundreds of rounds run through the pistol, the finish shows "0" wear. I've not seen anything like it from any manufacturer. The old saying "You Get What You Pay For" is an understatement when it comes to the Guardian. In my humble opinion, it is the equal of most custom built 1911's out there costing $2000 and up. The parts that Dan Wesson does not make in house are sourced from the best in the business, no down level components live in this pistol.

I have a Kimber pro carry commander size in 9mm and I love it. Great feel to the gun, and I would imagine that the Guardian can only improve on that. I really wish I had enough money sitting around to buy a CBOB if I could find one, but that will have to wait a few years.

I like it. It's expensive but I firmly believe in paying for quality. If I had the funds I would buy it. Never heard a negative thing about a DW. Let us know how it shoots ;)

DW makes some nice pistols. If I am in the market for another 1911 in the future I'll give them due consideration.

The 9mms seem to have more problems than the .45s.

I think that the problem is the Check-mate mags.
Never liked Check-mate Beretta 92 mags...(cheaper for a US contract) so the DW mags would be replaced ASAP
if I was to buy a DW in 9mm.

I have not seen or owned a DW I did not like. The Guardian is no exception. DW makes very fine firearms. I fully agree when you want high quality and a firearm for the long haul then you will pay more.
It's not a problem til they make it one!

I have a .45 Guardian. Really do like it. I have only fired about 200 rds. and so far it has been flawless. No safe queens in my arsenal, after a few more rds. it will be my EDC.

    What ammo in 45 ACP?

    Any holsters such as IWB?

I think that with the new AWB looming ahead..that people will be going to single stacks and
    revolvers.

I love my hi-capacity CZs and Glocks, but would suffice with a 1911 or 38+P/.357 Magnums.
