    series 80 1911's have a fire pin block and an inertia driven firing pin. Having the hammer down on a live round on these models isn't dangerous. However it isn't recommended to carry in that condition because #1 the 1911 doesn't have a decocking feature... you would have to lower the hammer on that live round and #2 the pistol isn't ready when you need it.
    There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
