I suppose we're all idiots if we don't know the significance of March 29th, eh?

Well, the year is as relevant as the month and day.

March 29, 1911 -- The United States Army officially adopts the new .45 caliber pistol from Colt as its new sidearm, and designates it as being the model 1911.

In the final torture test months earlier between the Colt and its competitor from Savage, each handguns had 6,000 rounds fired from it over a two day period. When the handguns became too hot to handle, they were dunked into a bucket of water to cool off, so the shooting could continue.

Over the two day period, the Savage suffered 39 malfunctions, while the Colt had ZERO.

John Browning was present for the tests himself. He told the Army brass that the design of his gun was superior in every way, especially regarding reliability.

After the torture test was over, no one could argue with him any more regarding Browning's claims for the handgun's abilities.

Well since it is on a Tuesday, I think I'll celebrate by going to work.

I plan to inform my employer that my religious faith requires me to take this day off to honor our faith's greatest prophet, John Moses Browning (PBUH).

Haven't heard of anything happening here in West Virginny but that shouldn't surprise anyone.

On a personal note, this 'ol coot should get his first Social Security check that week.

    You're kidding, right?

I know the date is probably correct, but worthy of a national holiday or any special significance?

They are making 100th anniversary edition 1911's, to commemorate the gun, what else do you want?

Yeah, I have two 1911 guns. Heck one of them is even a Colt. And they are great guns. But the world doesn't revolve around them.
