Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.
If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics stink.
J&G Sales is advertising used S&W Model 64s (Stainless/38/DAO/4" barrel) for $249 in Shotgun News. I've heard good things about the condition of these revolvers.
For an expendable pistol under $300.00, try looking for used guns in your local pawn shops, newspaper classifieds or in Gun Broker. Make sure you get some kind of safe to avoid having it stolen from your truck. I would opt for a J Frame revolver but you can probably find a very nice used semi-auto pistol. In that case, I would try looking for an old Beretta 92FS 9mm. That would be a solid last ditch weapon for your truck. It is made of steel, it has adjustable sights, it holds a lot of ammo and it is ultra reliable. Perhaps you can find one that was traded in by the military or by a local law enforcement agency.
Here's my recommendations for a gun of $300.00 or less.
- Beretta 92FS 9mm (Used)
- CZ 75B 9mm
- J Frame Revolver (Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Charter Arms Rossi or Taurus) .38/.357
- S&W Sigma 9mm/.40
- Taurus PT92 9mm
- Ruger SR9

Used Ruger P-series, Sigma...all would work.
Personally, I'd seriously consider a Makarov or CZ83. Yes, they're 9x18, but still worth consideration.

A buddy of mine just picked up a W. German made SIG P6 for $230.00. Evidently the P6 (military/police version of P225)has been exclusive to the German LE until SIG recently did an exchange with the Polezi for a new platform. I will have my eyes open for one of these. I have always wanted a SIG just never followed through.

How about one of those derringer 45/410's??? under $200 new and at that distance it should be devistating. And who cares if it gets stolen.
*It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
*Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Mossberg 500. Is $300 or less and larger than a 9mm. It is not a hand gun, but you never specified that, and besides, 12ga has a better pucker factor anyhow. Sounds like that is what you are looking for based on criteria.

Well its not stainless, but a PF-9 sounds like a great choice to me, if going used, the plethora of used 5906s out there would be great.
