    SP101 night sight install

For you guys that put a night sight on the SP101 I need some advice. I took the old sight out drilled the new night sight but I'm having trouble getting the sight pin back in. The night sight holes are in perfect alignment with the sight pin holes but the pin is super tight going in. I'm afraid if I pound on it I will break or deform the pin. Any advice on getting it in? It was a huge pain getting it out so I ordered a brand new sight pin.

Just a few thoughts... Try the pin in the gun and the sight separately to make sure the holes are the right size. Make a careful measurement to be sure perfect alignment is really perfect. That sight couuld be bottoming out in the groove a little. Maybe start a small taper to the new pin or turn it down a few thousanths. Or whack the crap out of it with your hammer of choice.

I used the same pin I pushed out. With the right punches and a heavy hammer it was fine.

Did you drill the sight in the revolver or separate?

I just beat the snot out of a few pins on something else the other day. It's amazing what a heavy hammer (BFH) can do.

Don't force it. Get a bigger hammer.

I drilled both sides a little while it was in the revolver then took it out and slowly drilled a bit on each side until it went all the way through. Sight pin pits in sight fine but is tight in the stock hole on the revolver. I'll get a big hammer and see what I can do.

What about freezing the pin. It may contract just enough. I am guessing by now you have tried the bigger hammer.

Before my gunsmith reinstalled the pin he put the sight in the base and ran the drill bit through the base holes and sight together then put the pin in. Just saying.

I drilled mine with the sight in the gun. Kind of like what Old School was mentioning about his smith running the bit through the base and sight together. Just don't go all over the place and widen the hole.

A big hammer is better than beating it up with a little one.

    Good luck.

I had my 'smith' install the Trij on my SP101...no additional cost.
No hassle, and just a 15 minute wait.
