It has a hair trigger. I absolutely can't wait to shoot it.

Will make a great pocket gun...if ya' got HUGE pockets.
Very nice pistol, and it should give you shooting excitement...nice find!

Thanks to you Mr BD I have my first shoot for the spring going into the planning phase. "Big Wheels Keep Turnin' Shoot" I think I'll have a day shoot where it's only for 41Mag and above wheel guns. Any suggestions for targets? Stumps, water jugs, hard drives?

You carried it for defense without even shooting it first?

I would recommend Randy Garrett Hammerhead ammo for hunting, but you'll need to check with him first as to whether or not the pistol can handle it:

I shoot the 310 grains out of a Gary Reeder customer Super Blackhawk, and am confident they will take any game I can hit in N. America.

I bought it from an individual (not a dealer or participant) at a gun show, which means I had locked my 1911 in my truck safe (they make you unload and then zip tie the action, so why bother). I happened to have my leather IWB still in my pants so I carried it (with a zip tie around the hammer) in it all day while at the show. I bought ammo and loaded it when I got in my truck and carried it the drive home (also had my .45 1911 on the console beside me). I did test the firing pin with a pencil inserted eraser side down and the pencil cleared the barrel. It's now in the safe and I'm carrying my 1911 back and forth to work.

Old computers, monitors, TVs, and printers. Hospitals usually have a bunch of this stuff (as well as old medical equipment) that becomes obsolete and they have to discard. They'd probably give it to you and be glad to get rid of it. Great targets.

It is indeed. The company went out of business in the early 70s, so it's an antique gun.

    Here's a little history:

Hy Hunter, is the trade name of American Weapons Corp
Hayward Hunter, also known as Hy Hunter, was the corporate president

Hy Hunter and EMF were early distributers of Great Westerns.
The first revolvers made by Great Western were the poorly
made .22's but they improved quickly after that, and even Elmer Kieth commented
on the improvements. Great Western added a number
of major calibers including .45 colt, 44-40 .357 and .44 magnums.

Great Western sixguns were totally American Made. Later Hunter also
brought in the very well made German J.P. Sauer & Sohn "Hawes" versions.
