    Beretta 92FS cleaning?

I have a beretta 92FS that I want to clean out the firing pin channel on. However I don't have anyone locally that can detail strip the slide. I don't feel comfortable taking it down far enough to remove the firing pin.

My question is is there any type of cleaner I can use that can be sprayed into the channel to remove any gunk that may be in there? I wanna give it a good cleaning without having to detail the slide, thanks guys.

Thats sounds like a job for a subsonic cleaner if you know anybody or a gunsmith that has one. I agree with the others...talk to guantes.

    1911luver,
This is one of the better sites for working on the 92FS. Disassembly of the slide is not recommended unless necessary to replace broken parts. That is mentioned in Chapter 2, Notes on Further Disassembly.

I have never felt the need to disassembly the slide for cleaning or seen any gunk, etc to indicate that that was necessary. That being said, I clean my guns whenever they fire even a single round. I use CLP liberaly, with tooth brushes when cleaning the slide and use a Scotch-Brite/knife blade on the breech face to scrape off the carbon, then blow it off with my compressor. Then I apply CLP to the active surfaces and the decocker/safety lever. I tend to run my Berettas wet and they seem to like it.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Yes, I can strip a 92 frame, but have never messed with trying to take the slide apart. Most do not recommend it.

There are some small pins and springs associated with the safety levers that must come off. If you do take the slide apart, I have seen many recommend to do it inside of a large plastic ziplock bag - to make sure you do not lose those tiny springs and pieces when they go flying....
