Kimber solo - range report and grips

we went to our local FFL to pickup the kimber solo we ordered last week. (gun actually belongs to my father).

we went to the range, and decided to try out the gun. first impression is that this is an awesome little pocket rocket. trigger is exceptional, as well as the feel, weight, and size. the capacity leaves a bit to be desired, but with the 9mm cartridge a little bit of confidence is restored.

as for reliability, we tried many different kinds of hollow point ammo, as well as some FMJ ammo we had. this thing ate up whatever we threw at it! accuracy was exceptional for a gun of this nature. another note is that this gun fits a kel-tec p11 holster well enough to get by until more is available on the market.

one mag per spot, again, not really taking my time, but not getting in a hurry either.

this is 2 mags from the solo. this is taking my time and getting the shots right.

then i decided it needed some grips.

i make custom grips for 1911's, so naturally with the lack of availability of kimber solo grips (for obvious reasons), i decided to make a set myself.

i made these out of some of the nicer cocobolo i have here. ill let the pics speak for themselves.

Great report, the grips improve the looks immensely.

yes they do, and they give it a very 1911 look.

Your grips look great on the Solo.

But one quesion. Is the Solo small enough to pocket carry?

Glad to hear the Kimber is running well.

As for the grips, I going to go against the grain (no pun intended) and say, for my taste, it's too many color contrasts--black, S/S, wood. I think somthing in a dark (gray, black?) stain on ash or maple would match better.
Nice handy work though. I have zero woodworking skills.

When I was at the gun shop the other day looking at the SOLO I put it in my pocket and it actually fit nice in there nice. A little larger and heavier than my Bodyguard 380 but it fit. Now with a holster and ammo it may fit more snugly and heavier. God Bless

it seems to fit the pocket good. not sure how a holster changes the fit in the pocket as holsters arent required here in georgia....
