Seems like it would be a hell of a hand gun. Any experience with it? Takes 44 magnum and 454 casull but if I got one would probably chamber it in 44 special

It would be extremely heavy for a CCW, especially for a 44 special. There seems to be better choices in 44 special, than the Alaskan. If your talking about a field gun, it would my first choice, especially if I was in bear country.

Great heavy handgun for woods and bear country, but he is right lots of better choices to use .44 special.

Would most def be a field gun. Havent fired 44 mag but have heard stories, only reason why I would think about loading in 44 special.
Actually, I just picked up an Alaskan for my move next month to the Peninsula. The .44 Mag version of course also fires .44 special. I got the .454 Casull version which also chambers .45 Colt. I love it and it is at the smith having a hi-viz front sight installed. I will post pics next week when I get it back.

The .45 Colt will work fine for defensive purposes. Good luck with the mosquitoes!

I like the 454 Casull Ruger Alaskan, but would never buy an alaskan to shoot 44 specials with. I am currently searching for S&W Alaskan chambered in .500 or 460.
*It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
*Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
*We all got it coming
