Well went out to the range today to shoot the new XD. I took a couple hundred of my reloads, and some Speer Lawman. I also took my DW 1911 and my 24/7 in 9mm.
Surprisingly the transitions between the 3 guns wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I rotated them out shooting paper and steel plates anywhere from 20 to 35 feet or so.
The XD shot at point of aim, recoil was fine, and reliability was good with the FMJ. When I loaded up some of my reloads that were made with 185 gr Hornady XTP, the first round didn't want to feed when releasing the slide. If I racked the slide they would load. No issues with cycling the XTP's when shooting, just on the first round when using the slide release.
I will get some Speer GDHP and see how it runs with them. I don't forsee any problems with that ammo. I think with a bit more time at the range and a few hundred more rounds through it, it will be a good option for carry once I get a holster in.
Overall, I am happy with the purchase.
Oh, and I feel for you folks who live where it snows often. There was ice and snow on the range today and when the hot brass lands in the ice, it melts it just enough to freeze itself into the ice. Makes for a pain in the back side and cold fingers when picking the brass out of the ice.
