    Does this even exist?

I'd like to know if this gun exists:
    -1911
    -9mm
    -officers frame w/3.5 - 4" barrel
    -short GI style trigger
    -beaver tail grip safety
-night sights (can be added later)
-Under $1000 (rules out the emp)
    -NO ambi safety
-Either 30 LPI checkering on the front strap or smooth so it can be checkered later, meaning NO stippling or serations.

I've looked high and low and can't find a gun sold like this that fits this bill. If you know of one, please tell me

    ....or.....

If you can recommend which gun to start with and them modify it later to "finish" it up, please let me know.

The Springfield EMP comes closes but I would have to change out the Ambi and I don't like the hammper on it. Plus I don't care for the 3" barrel; I think it looks too short. I'm also not fond of the night sights. I like the ones with the white rings around the ampules so they're good in the day too. The Springfield night sighs look like little crystals but with no outline. So if you start out with a $1,200 gun, change out the thumb safety, get it checkered and refinished, you're up to $1,500 or more.

Don't laught but I wish RIA made their compact in 9mm!

I've found a lot of guns that come close like Wilsons, Para Ordiance, STI, etc but there's always a number of things that are off. Para Ordinance has some that come close but I don't like the funky triggers.

I know I'm asking a lot but you folks know a lot!

Thanks in advance for you time!
    Gideon

Lose the budget. I hate to say it, but that is the hurdle you have to cross.

If you start with budget, you must compromise.

I think it does exist, but not for under $1,000 dollars.

Kimber Ultra Aegis - the only 'compromise' from your requirements is a 3 inch barrel, but you can't tell by looking at it. The Aegis has a 4" bbl but a full-size grip

That one looks very close to your specifications, at least to me it does. Of course, it is a lot more than you want to spend, and I wouldn't want something that says Ms. Sentinel on the slide.

I really think talking to a custom 1911 smith is the way for you to go, but it is going to be pricey.

How about the Kimber Pro Carry II?

I think it meets all your criteria (including price) except that it has a match grade aluminum trigger instead of a GI trigger, and uses fixed instead of night sights. However both of those can be easily swapped out to meet your specifications...

Maybe you could build your own? IIRC I could have put together a Fusion for around 1K, but then again I get dealer pricing from Brownells and no gunsmithing fees.

Just for poops and giggles look at a Star BM. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that you are looking for but it is a nice single stack 9mm that can be had pretty cheap.

Steven Camp does a great job evaluating handguns and here is his write up.

the Star BM is a well made handgun, but no backstrap safety. If I remember correctly (had a few of them) they do have 3.86" barrel and pretty nice trigger for a Spanish made police weapon.

Recently in a hangun magazine that does not take advertising they reviewed 3 1911 9mm which fit your bill. The Kimber Aegis beat both the Springfield loaded and STI. The list is over $1000 but street price should be right. Be aware if not in stock I have been told Kimber is about 8 weeks behind and for this year it will probably only get worse.

I think the 9mm Colt Defender is your best answer. They list for under $1000, but I've seen them for in dealers for $875. Gunbroker.com is packed with them, many are even cheaper than that. The New Agent has lines down the front strap, but the Defender is smooth. I had mine checkered at 30 LPI last summer along with some other work to it. Put on some straight 8 night sights. Trigger could be switched out to a short GI, but when messing with a series 80/90, you should have a competent 1911 gunsmith do it as to not cause problems with the firing pin safety; it can take some finesse to fit it. The barrel is 3 inches though. Mine is a tack driver, but it is a .45. Never have shot the 9mm.
