Went to look at a GP100 4" stainless and my patience paid off with a 686 4"
I've been looking for years for the right buy on a Ruger 4" GP100 stainless. I almost got one last year but that fell through. On a whim, I called one of my local stores today and asked if they had one and they had a used one literally come in this morning. I went to go check it out and right next to it was a S&W 686 4" that just screamed, PICK ME INSTEAD! It had only been in there a day or two and its amazing it was still there. Let's see, $465 for the Ruger or $495 for the S&W? That's a no-brainer. It's funny because I never even considered the 686 before and I don't really know why. Tunnel vision I guess.
I still need to do a little cleanup on it but its in really good shape. The trigger action is a dream and it absolutely fits my hand like they were made for each other. My patience finally paid off!

I got a 6 inch 686 and yes it's a no brainer of a choice compared to the Ruger GP100 (which is also a fine pistol). Does yours have a sweet trigger? Anyone who has picked up mine swears that I have had a trigger job! haha
The Ruger MKIII 22/45 is the worst handgun in history to take apart, but is one of the funnest to shoot...

The only time I ever achieved a perfect score on a qual was back in 1982 with a 4" 586.

My 686 is the last handgun that I would part with if things got bad. You did real good.

Yeah C hawk, the trigger is amazing. Cocked back it's firm to the touch but a little pressure and its like butter. I wouldn't want it any softer. Even double action, there is very little resistance. I have no idea if its had a trigger job, very well worn or they're just made that way. I can't wait to take it to the range. I've got plenty of .38sp ammo but I need to get my hands on some .357 magnums.

The 686 is the most accurate handgun that I own. You got a very good deal and you will not be disappointed. Congratulations!!
