    629 Classic or 629?

Are you sure your gun is a 629 Classic and not a 629? The main difference
is a full underlug on the 629 Classic, like mine shown below compared to a 629 from the S&W website:

    NIICE! I really want a 629 5"

My grandpa had a nickel model 29 (Dad has it now) and when I'd go mountain biking (in Montana) he'd always shake his head at the bear spray I'd carry and say, you know, you really oughta have THIS! He carried it in the door sidepocket of his pickup wherever he went. When he retired from farming he loved to just cruise around the country with his Model 29 .44 and his .22 rife and take the occasional shot at coyotes, badgers etc with the .44 and shoot gophers with his .22 when he wasn't helping out or socializing with the neighbors. He was livin the good life! I'll never forget hearing about how he'd go watch the deer out in the fields and one time he fell asleep sitting there. The neighbors knew he had some health issues, was in his 80s etc and went to go check on him sitting out there and knocked on his window, and the reply my grandpa gave was a tap on the window with his .44 and mentioning he better not sneek up on him like that again or he'd be missing the head on his shoulders! (he had a gruff sense of humor)

I'm really gonna have to fight my dad to "borrow" it once in a while.. But I still want a 629 I can feel a little better about knocking around with while hiking/hunting etc. even if my dad gives up the 29 someday. Beauty and nostalgia for me. Besides, never hurts to have a .44 mag with you when you're enjoying the great outdoors.

Congrads Chris! Stoke it with some SWCs of about 315 grains over a healthy dose of H-110 or 2400, and you will be ready for anything in the states. For SD purposes, substitute some 200 grain Silvertips and call it a day. Good choice of a wheel gun.

I haven't tried the heavy (300+ grain) projectiles yet, but 240gr SWC's over 21 grain of 2400 is a great load for most 44mags, so I'd assume that the big boy loads glockman mentioned would be great as well!

Just last night, I was researching the 454 Casull, and trying to figure out how I'd justify it to the wife. "You see honey, you never know when a bear posing as a pizza-delivery guy is gonna show up at our door"...

Okay, I haven't come up with the right line yet, but I just know in my DNA that everybody needs a very large caliber handgun.
